Setting a Hen – not

She didn’t want to set. I left her under a bushel basket for 24 hours, then sleeping overnight on her eggs in the new place. But this morning the eggs had kind of rolled off the nesting pad, and when she had a chance she was up and about, urgently wanting to get back into her nest box.

That’s the second hen who didn’t want to stay in her new place. The one who did move successfully (a couple of weeks ago) had chicks already hatched, so she stayed with them, I suppose. The eggs themselves don’t seem to do the trick; it’s location, location, location.

So she’s back inside the coop, in her original nesting box, and I hope that the dozen eggs she was supposed to be sitting on didn’t cool off too much to hatch. We’ll know in another week.
